Second Concert of Operatic Gems to benefit Preemies and Critical Care for Newborns

Toronto, ON – The 2nd  “A little OPERA for little BABIES” will feature a large cast of exciting performers, singing operatic gems in order to raise money for The Linden Fund, in support of Neonatal Intensive Care.

“A little OPERA for little BABIES will take place on March 19, 2011 (Prematurity Awareness Day in Ontario), at a little Opera for little Babies7:30pm, at Bloor St. United Church, located at 300 Bloor St. West, in Toronto, Ontario.  Performers announced so far include Maureen Batt, Cheryl Campbell, Kate Carver, Rachel Cleland, Shannon Coates, Kristine Dandavino, Nadine Guertin, Geoff Keating, Suzanne Kilgore, Jason Lamont, Maria Knight, Laura McAlpine, Amy Steggles, Andrew Tees, Kent Tisher, Sandra Tucker, and Damien Villeneuve. The evening will feature arias and ensembles from well known operas.

The “A little OPERA for little BABIES” concerts are organized by Cheryl Campbell and Geoff Keating, inspired by the premature birth of their daughter, Audrey, in 2007. Audrey was born at 28 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb 13 ounces, and spent her first 75 days in hospital. They are again joined by pianist Kate Carver and baritone Andrew Tees, also parents of a preemie, born at 26 weeks. Many of the performers have been impacted by prematurity, including Nadine Guertin, a former preemie.

As in November 2009, the proceeds from this concert will be donated to The Linden Fund. The Linden Fund raises money to fund health needs through the purchase of specialized medical equipment as well as providing items of comfort and convenience to assist in the mental, physical, and emotional development of premature infants and their families of the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit across Canada.
